It Might Be Time for AC Repair If…

fan

With summer approaching, you don’t have time to worry about air conditioner troubles! You want to be focusing all of your attention on fun things: planning your summer vacation, scoping out the best scoop shop, and picking out a brand new bathing suit (perhaps that polka dot bikini you always wanted?). So, when something does go wrong with your air conditioner, it can certainly be annoying.

You want to make sure to schedule your air conditioner repair in Charlottesville, VA at the first sign of a problem, so it is important to be aware of those signs! Therefore, we have listed some of the most common signs of AC trouble for your convenience. All you have to do is keep reading below and hope that your AC doesn’t run into trouble this summer (And, if it does, don’t worry—we’ve got your back!).

Signs Your AC is in Trouble

Be on the lookout for the following:

Strange Noises

Your air conditioner is not inherently noisy. In fact, the only sound you should ever hear coming from your AC is the sound of air gently whooshing through the vents! So, if you hear any sounds that resemble screeching, clanking, grinding, humming, or rattling, its definitely a cause for concern. Fortunately, your local HVAC professional will be able to pinpoint the source of the sound and repair it accordingly.

Low Airflow

A lack of airflow is quite noticeable: all you have to do is stand in front of a vent. Often, low airflow is the result of a clogged air filter, in which case, all you have to do is change it! A dirty air filter can negatively impact your AC is a multitude of ways, so we recommend changing every 1-3 months during the summer. However, if a dirty air filter isn’t the culprit, it is likely that you’re dealing with a frozen evaporator coil, which definitely warrants a service call.

Short Cycling

Short cycling is a term used to describe when your air conditioner repeatedly turns on and off without ever completing a full cooling cycle. Not only is short cycling extremely inefficient, but it also puts a ton of strain on your system, leading to costly repairs and sky-high bills. So, if your system turns on and off every few minutes, turn off the system completely and contact your local HVAC professionals ASAP!

Higher Bills

We recommend keeping a close eye on your monthly utility bills. If you find that you are paying more and more each month to keep your home cool, it is likely that you’ve got a problem on your hands. There are several issues that can result in inefficiency, so it is important that you contact a professional right away to properly diagnose it. Why pay more than you have to?

Call in a Professional

We can’t stress enough the importance of hiring a professional to handle all of your AC repairs. Yes, there are going to be plenty of amateurs willing to service your system at a questionably cheap cost, however, an attempt to save money can end up costing you much more in the long run. It is better to get the job done right and hire a pro the first time around.
