Air Filtration Systems and Air Purifiers in Charlottesville, VA

If you’re like most homeowners in Charlottesville, VA and the surrounding areas, it’s likely you aren’t even aware that there are millions of microscopic airborne contaminants floating around in the air inside your home. These contaminants may include dust, dirt, pollen, dander, dust mites, smoke, volatile organic compounds, viruses, bacteria, and mold/mold spores.

At Mack Morris Heating & Air Conditioning we provide expert installation and service of a number of different air filtration systems and air purifiers. The air filters that come standard with your HVAC system aren’t enough to improve your indoor air quality, but we have the answer. Contact us today to learn more—we can’t control the weather outside of your home but we can control the weather inside!

What Is an Air Filtration System?

A whole–house air filtration system is an additional air filter—a tightly woven fiber mesh stretched across a frame and installed directly into your ductwork. As air flows through the filter, any contaminants carried with it become snared in the fibers. This is a commonly used method of clearing a home’s air as it doesn’t require any additional energy usage.

As we mentioned above, the air filter that comes standard with your heating and cooling systems isn’t enough to protect your indoor air—in fact, the intended purpose of this air filter is to protect the HVAC units themselves, not your indoor air. Regardless of what type of air filtration system you have, however, an air filter should be changed out every 1–3 months during periods of use.

What is Air Purification All About?

There are a variety of air filtration products on the market, available to residents throughout the Charlottesville, VA area, to rid your home of many contaminants—but not all. You may want to consider an air purifier to protect your home and your health against some stubborn particles such as bacteria and viruses.

  • Ionization Purifiers: An ionization purifier is an air purification system that’s often referred to as an electronic purifier. It emits clouds of magnetically charged particles during operation, which give an opposite magnetic charge to the contaminants within your air. When the contaminants enter the purifier, they’re attracted to a metal plate which can then be removed and cleaned.
  • UV Air Purifiers: These systems are different in that they don’t impact particles that are already in the air. Instead, they bathe harmful microorganisms such as bacteria, mold, and mildew within your ductwork in a UV light that effectively kills the contaminants. The exposure given from the UV air purifier is harmless to people and pets, but deadly to bacteria.
